Our commitment

Leigh Anne Monk is committed to making lasellsva.com usable by as many people as possible, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, screen magnification, voice control or other assistive technology. Housing information should be available to everyone, and we treat that as a professional obligation rather than a formality.

Standard we are working toward

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA.

To be straightforward about where we stand: this site is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Partially conformant means most of the site meets the standard, but some content does not yet, and some of it sits with third parties we do not control. The known gaps are listed below rather than left unsaid.

What we have done

• Pages are built with semantic HTML, proper heading order and landmark regions, so assistive technology can navigate structure rather than guess at it.
• Interactive elements are reachable and operable with a keyboard, and the site does not trap keyboard focus.
• Meaningful images carry descriptive alternative text, and decorative images are hidden from assistive technology.
• The color palette was chosen and checked for text contrast.
• Layouts reflow for small screens and for browser zoom, without requiring horizontal scrolling to read body text.
• Nothing on the site plays audio automatically.
• Forms use real labels rather than placeholder text alone, and errors are described in text.

Known limitations

We would rather name these than imply the site is flawless. We are working on each of them.

• The property search. Our live MLS search is provided by a third-party vendor, IDX Broker, and is served from search.lasellsva.com. We do not control its markup or its controls, and some of it may not meet Level AA. If the search is difficult to use, please call and we will run any search for you and send you the results directly.
• Listing photographs. Photos and their descriptions come from the Bright MLS feed as the listing brokerage supplied them. We cannot add or improve alternative text on listing images sourced from the MLS.
• Embedded video. Video is delivered through a third-party player whose controls and captions we do not fully control.
• Downloadable documents. Some PDF guides may not be fully tagged for screen readers. We will provide the same information in an accessible format on request.
